It's official! Softball joins NWAAC for 2010-11 Season
Team poised to make immediate impact on leagueJune 3, 2010 New Westminster
Douglas College is proud to announce that the Royals Women’s Softball Program will commence competition in the North Division of the North West Athletics Association of Community Colleges (NWAAC) effective the 2010-2011 academic year. The Team has been operating as a club sport for the past 2 years and will join the Royals Varsity Program. The team will be coached by Gord Collings who has been with the program since it started 2 years ago. “Gord is true educator, he recently retired from 34 years as teacher and administrator in the BC High School system. He also has a huge softball background as he has coached the Delta Heat for 17 years and is the Head Coach for Team BC for the 2011 Western Canada Games. He truly believes in enhancing the total student experience.” stated Dean Howie the Director of Athletics and Campus Life.
“BC is a hotbed for softball talent and this is a great opportunity for student-athletes to combine their post secondary education with softball while they stay at home.” mentioned Collings.
The coaching staff is presently hard at work recruiting players and finalizing the roster for the fall exhibition season. Based upon the results of the team this year and quality of players the Douglas Royals believe they can be a competitive team from the start. Royals compete in Softball City Tourney
Young team finishes 3-2 and wins consolation finalsApril 28, 2010 New Westminster
Kyla MyreGame 1. Saturday A great weekend of ball by the Douglas College Softball Team. Friday night's double header was not meant to be due to a rainout. With an adjustment to the tournament schedule Saturdays our first round robin game against the Surrey Stealers 6 t0 1 win on nine hits. Kyla Myre winning pitcher also had the first home run for Douglas Royals of the tournament. Faithe Pogany started the 6 th inning off with a double and Kristi Wilson earned the RBI for Pogany's run.
Game 2. The great hitting of the Cavaliers proved to be too much for the Douglas Royals handing the Royals a loss of 12 to 2 the Royals.
Game 3. An unfortunate loss 2 - 1 for the Douglas Team two runs that were scored in the first inning on 2 hits and one error. The Royals scored Lauren Shannik in the 4 th inning Kyla Myre got the RBI. Douglas's struggled with there hitting Fleetwood Force limited the Roylas to 3 hits for the game 2 singles by Lauren Shannik and one by Kim Stoliker.
Game 4. Sunday Semi Finals: Douglas was placed into the Consilation Bracket: Douglas beat the Maple Ridge Womens Pink Energy in 4 innings a 10 -0 Mercy. Kyla Myre pitching was too much for the Pink Energy Myre allowed one walk and only 1 hit. Laura MacMillian did a great job behind the plate with a double play throwing out a runner on 3rd base. The Royals bats were very strong scoring 10 runs on 10 hits. Rylee Duncan started the 1st inning with a homerun. The Royals second inning included 6 runs. This win put Douglas into the finals at 3:30 pm.
Game 5. Douglas Royals Cosilation winners 7 to 1 against Surrey Stealers The final game Kyla Myre allowed only 2 hits Elana Spelling called a great game behing the plate.The first inning set the tone of the game with Danica Anderson lead off batter getting on base due to a hit by pitch. Nicole Kolbilansky moved her on a single, Rylee Duncan sac bunt moved Danica Anderson into scoring position Kyla Myra recieved the first RBI on a single followed by Katie Osborne single also getting a RBI Lauren Shannik singled and Alyssa Felbel singled and earned a RBI with bases loaded.
Stellar Middle defense by Short Stop Danica Anderson and 2nd baseman Chelsea Baker. Plus the outfielding from Sam Morgan and Rylee Duncan.
Notible hit in the final Katie Osborne hiting a home run batting .500 for the weekend. Devon Rutledge and Kim Stoliker also batted .500 for the weekend as well as centre fielder Alyssa Felbel who had 1 double. Pitcher and Short Stop Nicole Kobilansky batted .450 with one double. Kyla Myre batted .400 with 2 homeruns and 1 double she ptiched 4 of the 5 games with 3 wins including the final. Nicole Kolbilansky and Devray Steele also helped out on the mound.
Top batter 3rd baseman Lauren Shannik who had two doubles batted 1.000 for the tournament.

Softball defeats Burnaby Oakeys
Excellent all round play turned in by the teamApril 20, 2010 New Westminster
The Royals softball team played very well on Sunday defeating the Burnaby Oakeys Sr. Women’s team by a score of 6-1. The Oakeys are the defending Sr. B Women’s Provincial Champions and so the win provided some positive results for the fledgling program. Fifteen players turned out for the game which saw all four pitchers get some innings in. The team has worked very hard both on and off the field which was evident in the successful weekend.
