Information You Need To Know:
On campus, student assistant positions are offered to students by several departments in the College - on a part-time basis - up to a maximum of 15 hours per week. (Students may be hired for a maximum of two student assistant positions per semester. If hired for two student assistant positions, a student may work a total of 15 hours/week for both positions combined.)
Student Assistants are paid a base rate of $9.50 per hour. (Effective May 1, 2012 - the base rate will be $10.25 per hour.) Learning Centre Peer Tutors, Access Aides, and Student Assistants - Special Projects are paid a base rate of $10.87 per hour. To be considered for a student assistant position, a student must be enrolled in a minimum of one (3 credit) course at Douglas College or another public, post-secondary institution in B.C.
International students must be enrolled in full-time studies (a minimum of 3 credits in the Summer 2012 term, and must have been enrolled in at least 9 credits for each of the preceding Fall and Winter terms) to qualify to work as a Student Assistant in the summer term. An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original study/work permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College. An international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another public, post-secondary institution in B.C., is eligible to work at Douglas College as a Student Assistant only if s/he has a valid "Off-Campus" Work Permit.
Proof of enrolment from the other post secondary institution is required for domestic and international students.
Before commencing work at Douglas College successful applicants will be required to meet with Employee Relations for an orientation session. At this meeting, applicants will be required to bring a void cheque and Social Insurance Number card.
